Now it's up to the General Assembly to pass it. Hogan wants the <a href="https://governor.maryland.gov/reliefact/?utm_source=naptownScoop&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=1.13.2021" target="_blank" style="border-bottom: 2px solid #5182ff;text-decoration: none;color: inherit;">RELIEF Act</a> immediately approved as emergency legislation. Here's the breakdown:</p> <ul style="line-height: 1.5;"> <li>$300 million – Up to $12,000 in tax credits for small businesses</li> <li>$270 million – Direct stimulus payments for low-to-moderate income Marylanders. No application necessary</li> <li>$218 million – No unemployment tax hikes in 2021 (Hogan announced this in December, the RELIEF Act would make it law)</li> <li>$180 million – Repeal all state and local income taxes on unemployment benefits</li> <li>$40 million – Safeguard MD businesses against tax increases triggered by using state loans or grant money</li> </ul> <h2 style="margin-bottom: 5px;margin-top: 5px;font-size: 1.2em;line-height: 1.5;">The new strain</h2> <p style="display: block;margin: 13px 0;line-height: 1.5;margin-bottom: 10px;margin-top: 0;">You've probably been wondering when that new COVID strain—AKA B-117—would make it to Maryland. A Baltimore area couple has it.
