In the coming weeks, the Annapolis Boat Shows drop anchor. We’re breaking down what’s for sail (oops, we mean sale!) at this year’s Annapolis Sailboat Show on October 10-14, 2024. Sure, you can buy a sailboat. There are around 500 exhibitors, all in sold-out booth space. And boats are just the beginning . . .
Why shop at the show?
Before we dig into the mast-have items (see what we did there?!), here are the top two reasons to shop at the show:
Besides boats, what’s for sale?
Unsurprisingly, the largest in-water sailboat show in the world has a boatload of items for sale. Just peruse their website for products at the show, and you’ll find more than 100 categories of items ranging from electronics to jewelry, and from sunglasses to night vision binoculars. We’re talking about everything you’d need for sailing: environmentally-friendly sunscreen, burgees flags, pennants, diving gear, knives, engine accessories, and so on.
We asked Ewenson if she could share the most popular brands. Her response? “Impossible. Sailors are really picky about their brands . . . they fall in love with one brand and are so loyal.”
We get it. Our fearless leader, Ryan, has an affinity for Helly Hansen. On chilly days, it’s rare to spot him sans his signature blue coat.
For many, a sailboat is like a floating home. With that comes nautical- or sailing-themed artwork, throw pillows, upholstery, clocks, or other home accessories, some of which would look great in an on-land home too. There’s practical things like pots and pans, plus enjoyable ones like SoCo Swings for relaxing in style.
Ewenson tells us there’s a ton of sailing clothing for sale: shoes, shorts, gloves, hats, sweaters, and most importantly, foul weather gear. She always tries on all the new sailing gear.
“Especially being a woman who sails, a lot of gear is made for men,” she explains. “But at the show, you can go and try it on.” It’s much better than an online shopping experience, where you’re often guessing on the best size.
