My name is Alexandra and I’m the face of @annapolitan_eats. I’m currently a senior at Loyola University Maryland where I study history, French, and Arabic (sadly, they don’t offer a degree in food). In my free time, I love going out to eat (duh), skiing, paddle boarding, and spending time with my family. As a native Annapolitan, I’m an ardent cheerleader for all things Annapolis (hence why I love the Naptown Scoop!)
Dangerously Delicious is a new and long anticipated addition to West Street. During their soft opening days last week, they sold out in short order. I went to see if it was worth the hype.
Dangerously Delicious has a very friendly staff. They are knowledgeable about the pies and can walk you through what's what in the pie case. They also offer to heat up your slices, which I love. However, my slice of apple pie and two slices of quiche were cold after my 10-minute drive home, even though they were wrapped in foil.
I'd be willing to wait a little longer in the store if they would keep my pie in the oven for more time. It took a while to heat it up at home too. Keep this in mind if you aren't eating your pie at home and don’t want a cold pie.
Though I've heard great things about their savory pies, I'm a huge quiche fan so I had to order each one:
The bacon, onion, and gruyere reminded me of Thanksgiving dinner (how fitting), though I'm not sure why. It was flavorful and my favorite of the two. The spinach and goat cheese was good, but a bit plain. Unfortunately, one part of my piece was so overwhelmed with goat cheese I couldn't bring myself to finish it.
Overall, I've had better quiche—especially for $7.50 per slice.
Now onto the main event: Pie. First, I must confess—this was my second slice of pie. Ever. No, there's no official diagnosis for this illness. Given this flaw of mine, I knew I needed to bring in a pie expert who could judge this pie against hundreds of others—my Uncle Rich.
Together, we concurred that the caramel apple crumb pie was a GREAT pie. It has a strong cinnamon flavor. This is important to me. The apples were firm and combined with the oat crumb topping for a nice texture. I added some of my favorite stracciatella gelato on top and clouds of caramel apple goodness floated me to heaven. If you don't know what stracciatella is, you're missing out on life.
I'm interested to try a chocolate flavor next.
Dangerously Delicious is brand new. They hadn't even been open a week when I went. I'm hoping they will work out kinks like pie temperature and inconsistent quiche flavors with a bit more time.
Overall, the pie is fantastic. I can't wait to try more and believe they'll be successful on West Street.
The Naptown Scoop rates restaurants on the same scale as Michelin stars:
Just like Michelin stars, not every restaurant will earn scoops. This doesn't mean they aren't good.
Alexandra has decided not to award Dangerously Delicious Pies a scoop.
