Sometimes there are just obscure details and facts that get lodged in your brain: A baby puffin is called a puffling. Henry VIII had six wives. Earth Day was first celebrated in 1970. If you’re somebody who has the kind of knowledge that makes most people think, “When am I ever going to need to know this?” — or if you’re just social and competitive — then Trivia Night is the perfect reason for you to get out on a weekday evening.
A lot of bars and restaurants in Annapolis hold Trivia Night on a weekly basis and individuals or teams can compete for that night’s coveted champion title. In addition to being an excuse to get out and socialize, Trivia Night presents a chance for friendly competition and mental stimulation. Plus, you might learn something in the process!
Trivia Night can be a new and different option for date night, a team-building exercise, or an overdue reunion. After all, what better way to get to know someone than to find out what their expert area of knowledge is?
Now that you’re craving some trivia and a cold beer on a weeknight, here’s a schedule of places that hold regular Trivia Nights, along with our Trivia Tips on how you can make it a successful evening.

Our tips for success…
1. First off, remember that success is not always about winning. It’s about having a good time! Going into Trivia Night feeling determined to win could kill the vibe not only for your team but also for the teams around you. Sure, it’s fun to know the answer, but keep the competition friendly.
2. Know everyone’s area of expertise. Maybe you have a friend who is a movie buff and another friend who is a history nerd. Having a team with diverse interests means you have a broader range of knowledge to tap into.
3. There’s no shame in doing a little bit of homework ahead of time. Nobody knows what questions are going to be asked (really, anything is fair game in trivia) but brushing up on common trivia categories through apps, websites, games, or books will boost your confidence. Current events are also often covered, so it’s worth scanning headlines for basic knowledge of what’s going on in the world.
4. Remember to pay attention. Sometimes the host may give subtle hints through the way the question is phrased or which words are emphasized. Sometimes if a host repeats the question, you can pick up clues the more you hear it.
5. As the saying goes, “Keep calm and carry on.” You don’t want to get so worked up talking as a team that you aren’t able to land on an answer to submit. Sometimes you only have a matter of seconds before you have to put out an answer, so use the time wisely.
There you have it! We hope you have a winning night of trivia in the city that has it all: Annapolis!
