Paul Reed Smith is a guitar maker, business owner, musician, and songwriter. He founded PRS Guitars in Annapolis (where he still lives) in 1985. Since then PRS has become the third largest electric guitar maker in the world. The factory—now on Kent Island—employs about 450 people. This is a poem Paul wrote about the war in Ukraine.

Can you believe this?
I thought we outgrew it
But I was wrong, so wrong
People are hurting, people are running
And what can I do, we do?
This just ain’t right
We need a new maturity
This is wrong, so wrong
Society is hurting, people are helping
And what can I do, we do?
Quietly you and I are closer
As we get farther away
What I believed can no longer be believed
Our reaction is strong, in the face of this wrong
So I can do what I can do
We need peace, and some resolve
Our world has changed and must evolve
Let’s give peace a chance
Let’s make peace have a chance
Let’s sing from the rooftops,
And scream with our hearts
I’m singin’ from my rooftop
Hear me scream from my heart
Make no mistake
This song is about the war
No one with a heart wants war
My heart is your heart, heartbeat to heartbeat
You tell me what to do
You hear me
Love means a lot
Somehow the heartbeat must find a way
If we stand strong long term
The vicious wrong that drives war
Should be gone
Go tell your families
Trumpet from the mountains
That we will not succumb
As I watch the good and evil
The heartbeat of peace must survive
We need peace, and some resolve
Our world has changed and must evolve
Let’s give peace a chance
Let’s make peace have a chance
Let’s sing from the rooftops,
And scream with our hearts
I’m singin’ from my rooftop
Hear me scream from my heart
