Why does a hospital need a fundraiser?

This is Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center’s largest fundraiser (and one of the biggest in Anne Arundel County). The *sparkly* event at AAMC’s South Campus (1997 Annapolis Exchange Parkway in Annapolis) seeks to increase mental health services with a specific focus on urgent pediatric mental health needs this year.

Back to the event attire — well, it’s up to you. Throw on your favorite denim or best cocktail dress. “Everything is in at Denim & Diamonds.” Enjoy a fun-filled cocktail buffet party with gourmet food trucks and delicious catering options. Spin a prize wheel and check out the many raffle opportunities and unique auction items. Last but not least, bust a move thanks to tunes from the Bachelor Boys Band.

Our sources tell us tickets go on sale in early March. While we wait, some fast facts (just call me Jenna Fischer) on why this “party with a purpose” deserves a spot on your calendar. 

• The growing need for pediatric mental health services in Anne Arundel County outpaces the current behavioral health care services offered. 
• LHAAMC sees 20,000 pediatric patients annually. Of these patients, 10% need mental health care.
• Pediatric mental health and substance abuse care are top health priorities in our region and community. Yet most pediatric mental health visits — which can be lengthy and costly — aren’t covered by insurance. This limits fair access to care.
• More training and modifications to the space are also needed to ensure that staff and patients are in a safe and comfortable environment.

Let’s face it. We live in a world where physical and mental health aren’t treated equally . . . As parents and caregivers, we know what to do if our child breaks their leg or has a fever. Sadly, watching a child endure a different kind of pain, stress, or fear can leave us feeling helpless. 

Mental health remains a difficult topic for many, especially when it pertains to children and adolescents. It’s time to reshape holistic healthcare for the beloved children in our lives. This is where you come in.
